Coach Frank McDonough
USA Archery Level 4Scholastic 3D Archery Advanced Coach
Early in childhood Frank grew up on the hard coal region of Schuylkill County Pennsylvania. At the time Sunday 3D paper animal shoots were the only competition archery going around other than the state association tournament at the Harrisburg Farm Show complex. Starting out with recurve as a young hunter and moving to compound to shoot indoors his passion for archery and competition grew quickly. At the age of 9 Frank started attended Reading Archery Club Junior Olympic Archery Development Program and quickly exceled as a youth Olympic Recurve shooter he was one of the top shooters in America before hitting high school.
Years later after completing high school he was a multi-sport athlete. He played basketball, competed and coached CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting leading a path back to competitive archery.
At that time Frank and his wife Sarah’s brick and mortar training center was born. They decided to start a youth archery program in the area because the area didn’t provide any opportunities for kids to experience and compete in the sport.
Proceeding forward as a Coach Frank has took part in learning all disciplines and competing as one of the top shooters in compound target/field, Olympic Recurve, and Barebow with in 5 years. Frank deliberately took on the struggle of learning each discipline so kids in his program wouldn’t be pushed to shoot and enjoy only one style of archery.
As a coach Frank has developed multiple youth and adult national champions and national and world record holders in each discipline. Mostly known as a barebow archery coach with founding The Barebow Project and coaching shooters world wide through that platform.
Frank’s transition to IAI started with the success of teaching and coaching through The Barebow Project and the realization that those methods would apply to all of archery disciplines.
